Belinda Garcia

Belinda Garcia BA, MSW. CAC III

Graduate from St. Joseph High School

Attended the University of Colorado 

At the age of 19 started Escuela Aztlan in west Denver in 1970

Later moved to New Mexico and graduated from Northern New Mexico in El Rito with a degree in Carpentry

Attended Highlands University in New Mexico graduated with Bachelor Degree in Education

Attended Denver University graduated and earned a MSW

Fourteen years Affiliate Professor at Metro State University and Adam State College 

Founder and former Executive Director of Hermanas de Color Unidas Para La Educación (Sisters of Color United for Education) the oldest Promotora program in Colorado and internationally in Mexico, Guatemala, Nicaragua, and Kenya.

Professor Garcia has taught Introduction to Chicana/o History and has developed and taught courses in Curanderismo Holistic Healing. Presently working on her book The Seed Planters (Los Plantadores de Semilla)

Belinda Garcia developed Sisters of Color United for Education in 1989.  She developed this program to engage community women and their families to build leadership to address health disparities, which includes mind, body, and spirit. 

Five bilingual curriculums have been developed that incorporate indigenous values and roots to curanderismo.

Moved to the Valle de San Luis where Sisters program was present and later started a mural project SOMOS AGUA.  This program began in 2017 in the valley.  The 5 Murals have been on display at El Pueblo History Museum. They will be displayed at the University of Colorado Denver Center.
