Beatrice Apodaca Montoya

Beatrice Apodaca Montoya was born of sharecropper parents in 1934 in Ault, Colorado. The first born of a family of 12, she was raised in Windsor, Colorado and graduated from Windsor High School in 1952. After graduation she embarked on a business career as a Secretary for a large insurance company and then as Office Manager for her husband’s Plumbing business until he retired. She finished out her career at a major non-profit and after retiring, spent many years volunteering for a local health clinic. She was married for 60 years and is now a widow, mother of 5 children, grandmother of 11 and great-grandmother of 11. She has lived in the same house in the Potter Highlands area in North Denver since 1961. Beatrice is passionate about volunteering and helping the under-served, loves the Arts and has been a stained-glass crafter since 1983. She believes in the importance of reading and set up a RIF program (Reading Is Fundamental) in one of our neighborhood elementary schools.

She has also written several poems, one that was published in an anthology, America at the Millennium (poetry.com) called, “The Golden Years.” She just completed the sequel to “The DB&G Bed and Breakfast” and is ready to publish. At 87 years young, she is still very active and enjoys all of her hobbies and new career as a writer. Her first, self-published book is "The DB&G Bed and Breakfast," a tale she has spun about our precious Hispanic families, so that they may live on in her stories.
