Denise Vega

Denise Vega is the award-winning author of seven books for kids from toddler to teen, including her “blog” books: Click Here (to find out how I survived seventh grade) – a Colorado Book Award winner – and Access Denied (and other eighth-grade error messages) as well as Fact of Life #31 (Colorado Book Award winner) and Rock On. Her picture books include If Your Monster Won't Go to Bed (Crystal Kite Winner), Grandmother, Have the Angels Come? ​ (Américas Award Commended Title, Living In Color Literary Award for best Children’s picture book, Colorado Book Award, Colorado Top Hand Award, and included in the Reading Is Fundamental Multicultural Library Booklist) and Build a Burrito. She has also published poems, articles, activities, and software manuals. ​ Denise has a B.A. in Film & Television from UCLA and a Masters in Education from Harvard University.


She is a Fiction/Young Adult Fiction Mentor for the Regis University MFA in Creative Writing Program, adjunct faculty for the Professional Creative Writing Program, University College at the University of Denver, and on faculty at Lighthouse Writers Workshop. In these teaching capacities, she shares her love for writing and supporting other writers as they work to provide quality literature for children and young adults.
